Clatsop Community Action is a local non-profit that makes a difference in thousands of lives throughout Clatsop County.  Providing funding, infrastructure and the labor force behind a multitude of organizations and programs that support the community, Clatsop Community Action (CCA) is an incredible asset to those in need of food, personal care, housing assistance, clothing and more.  This outstanding organization has launched a fundraising campaign through March 17th with a goal to raise $10,000 that will be directly invested into improving the lives of people in Clatsop County.

An agency since 1989 CCA helps over 200 people per week through their Astoria office and the new office in Providence Seaside Hospital.  “Everybody that walks in has a completely different story,” explained Elaine Bruce, Executive Director of CCA.  Bruce continued to explain how CCA manages many dynamic programs including 11 housing programs, 5 energy assistance programs, a personal care pantry that can assist those who need basic care items such as diapers for infants or soap, and a large food bank.

The Warrenton-based CCA Regional Food Bank collects donations from retail stores, local fisherman, and other partners, then distributes them to over 45 food sites.  An example of a partnering food site includes a school program that fills children’s backpacks with food so they will not be hungry over the weekend.  Other partnering food sites range from shelters, pantries, hot meal sites and more.

With an incredible amount of work being accomplished through this county wide agency, CCA depends on fundraising to maintain their ability to help those in need.  Now a week into their most recent campaign, they are ‘thankful for everyone’s support.”

CCA is now offering a blanket to help prevent fraud and abuse.  According to the National Adult Protective Services Association, financial exploitation is a fast growing crime.  This blanket can help serve as a cozy, yet informative, reminder to be careful with personal information and a useful guide on how to report suspected crimes.  Blanket is a ‘stadium size’ 50 x 60 “ and all proceeds generated by the sales go directly to CCA programs.  Be sure to order one or stop by the Astoria Office 364 9th Street to save on shipping!
