Many fundraising events
All the Safe & Sober activities, and fundraising events are planned and arranged by the parents of the seniors. Astoria High School parents started planning fundraising events before school started last September, and have since organized car washes, and a teriyaki bowl feed at a basketball game. And a couple of years ago, many area businesses donated 5% of their sales toward Safe and Sober celebrations on the first day of Spring break.
The parents of WHS seniors have organized these parties since 1990 with various churches and other groups doing it prior to this time. Over the years, the local businesses have been very supportive contributing toward the events, or allowing the fund-collection jars at their business locations. This year the jars are available at Arnie’s Café, Dooger’s, El Comprade, Farmer’s Insurance, Nisa’s Thai Kitchen, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Pizza Hut, Select Market, and also at Corner Store, Jetty and Bouy 9 in Hammond. The parents have also done a bake sale, and will be collecting soda cans in the beginning of April.
Staci Miethe is hoping to see more parents get involved. Besides organizing the senior party, the committee is responsible for decorating the gym graduation day. Staci is very hopeful that the plans will all come together to make the graduation day very special for all the seniors.
This year our plan is to take the seniors to Safari Sam’s in Portland. We would love to rent a charter bus to make the traveling more fun for the students, Staci Miethe says. The committee has a goal of raising between $5000-$8000 to cover all the costs. This includes the traveling costs, the admission fees, and also nice gift packages for all the seniors.
If anyone would like to contribute toward the WHS Safe & Sober Graduation Party, the donations can be made out to the WHS c/o Graduation Safe and Sober Committee and mailed to Warrenton High School 1700 S Main Ave, Warrenton, OR 97146. Any questions about the upcoming meetings, or fundraising events, such as the can drive planned in April, please email Staci Miethe.
