WHS Senior Night
Honoring Players and Family
By Annamaria Morrill
The Warrenton High School Senior Night on Tuesday, February 7th honored the senior basketball players and their family members for their support during the season. The parents received flowers, and senior students were given presents, purple balloons, and poster size cards, filled with good wishes from fellow team members and coaches. This special moment was celebrated between the varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball games, right after the Lady Warriors took a great win 74-57 against Portland Christian Royals.
The gym was full of cheering family members and fans, some of them with creative “big heads” cutouts of the senior players Katelyn Blodgett, Landree Miethe and Krista Morrill. All the team members played strong leading to Warrenton’s first victory over Portland Christian in 6 years. The teams were then tied for 3rd place in Lewis and Clark League. After the Tuesday night win the Warrenton girls will still hold an opportunity to continue to the play-offs.
The Portland Christian boys ended up overcoming the Warriors varsity boys 41-50, but not before Austin Frisbee scored his first varsity points as the time expired, with an assist by Nathan Oseguera. Christian Holt, by finishing his season will be in the top 15 all-time Warrenton boys’ scorers. The other seniors who were playing strong in the Tuesday night game were Raymond Alcobendas and Tyler Whitaker.
Some parents of the senior players sold baked goodies at the cafeteria during the night. The fundraiser was organized to support an upcoming Safe & Sober Celebration, where the parents want to provide a safe and fun party for all the seniors after graduation.
