Hunters from around the nation followed a Vancouver couple’s clues and cryptic notes over the past few weeks to discover a cache of jewels and coins stashed away in Clatsop County. Deidra and Dustin White wrote a series of eight clues to lead followers on a trek to remember. Mike Cowling and Kris Thor, Cowlazers vlog authors, teamed up with the Whites to sponsor the search. The Cowlazers are avid Forrest Fenn treasure searchers and loved the idea of staging their own search via their Youtube channel.
On Saturday April 20th, the hoard was tracked down by Lisa Kristine and Wayne Patterson from Forest Grove. It was uncovered in our very own Shively Park in Astoria. After beginning the search at Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, the trail led searchers up to Seaside and around the coast into the mouth of the Columbia River. The clues were themed around the memorable 80’s film The Goonies, so it was fitting that the fourth clue led investigators to the iconic Oregon Film Museum. The fifth clue sent hunters up the 164 steps to the top of the Astoria Column with a majestic view of The Columbia River and surrounding county. On to Shively Park from here where the proxy was discreetly hidden in a stand of aspens. Congratulations to the winners and cheers to all who joined in the fun!
