Scott Randall Merkley passed away on December 23, 2017, in the comfort of his home and in the company of his devoted and loving partner Nick Poepping.
Scott was born Thomas Scott Randall on August 28, 1947 in Longview, Washington. His father was Melvin Randall and his beloved mother was Joy Jamieson Merkley. Scott was raised in the towns of Eureka and Terra Linda, California, where he graduated high school in 1965. He went on to serve in the Navy for four years, which took him to Spain, Cyprus, and Israel. After his service, Scott served in the San Francisco Police Department before a long and varied career in hospitality. Scott lived in Gearhart and Seaside, Oregon since the late 1990s. He was a man of wide and diverse knowledge, with a particular interest in history and politics.
He is survived by his longtime partner Nick Poepping, of Seaside, Oregon. He is also survived by a brother and his sister, Cynthia Ayat as well as his three nephews, Jason, Daniel, and Michael Ayat, who always admired him and thought the world of him.
