Astoria Police Department had an unusual morning on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Kayla Madalynne Heinzman of Astoria, entered the department lobby requesting to be arrested for theft. This is rather suspicious and not a typical norm in a police agency. An officer made contact with Heinzman and attempted to work through her unfolding story, only leading to her second request to be booked.
According to APD, the officer asked Heinzman if she would like to go to the hospital to deal with her issues and was also asked if she had felt like hurting herself. Heinzman responded that she had felt like hurting herself and continued on to say that she wanted to kill everybody at a bank. At this point, Heinzman proceed to lunge at the officer.
The officer directed the woman to the floor and she proceeded to resist the officer’s efforts to arrest her. As a result of her actions, Heinzman was charged with attempted assault on a public safety officer and resisting arrest. She was transported and lodged at CCO.
