Preservation of Warrenton-Hammond

Preservation of

Warrenton-Hammond Historical Society

Not a Certainty without more Volunteers

The Warrenton-Hammond Historical Society has ceased functioning as an organization. President Diane Collier along with many volunteers have contributed years of collecting, cataloging, archiving and maintaining our history. The process of accurately preserving and documenting history is of vital importance to our community, our visitors, and future generations. This work requires seriously interested historians committed to this cause.

Currently the struggle is lack of interest and involvement. Participation has always been a barrier; each year the number of volunteers has decreased. This organization looking for more committed members; the workload has significantly increased. It is Diane’s hope to reestablish operations of this organization, creating a new governing body or Board of Directors.

We need younger people; candidates would be persons interested in recording the history of Warrenton & Hammond. “It is important that we don’t lose our history forgetting who we are,” said Collier. Our coastal region being culturally rich our ancestries must be preserved. Currently the historical files compiled are innumerable, thanks to all who’ve helped with this vision.

Diane Collier’s commitment to the endeavor shows in the countless hours she and husband Sonny Collier have worked. Each year they have managed the Warrenton Visitor/History Center keeping the building available to the thousands of guests. With diversity in materials collected, other resources, and other in kind donations the existing library is a considerable educational asset for future generations. Culturally, history is a vital part for our continuity. Generational historical documentation continues to be of vast social importance.

The Warrenton Visitor Center & Museum is located at 143 S Hwy 101, Young’s Bay Plaza Warrenton, Oregon. The Center will be open to the public during Spring Break during the hours 11-4 daily. Starting the last week of May through September 30th, 2017 hours of operation are 11am- 4pm, seven days a week.

Anyone interested in volunteering or contributing please contact Diane Collier at 503-861-2450. Volunteering one day a week lightens the workload!
