Allan Doney
Warrenton May 19, 1947 — Feb. 20, 2017
Allan Doney, a longtime resident of Warrenton and Clatsop County, died Monday at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St., in Astoria. A family get-together is planned at 4 p.m.
Allan graduated from Warrenton High School in 1965 and attended Clatsop Community College. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in Texas, California and Alaska during the late 1960s. He spent many years in landscape-related jobs in Clatsop County. After retiring he worked part time for brother Jerry’s company, Oregon Janitorial Service.
Allan was the consummate outdoorsman. He loved fishing, especially telling his famous tall tales afterward. He was a hunter in earlier years and was the Robert DeNiro of clam digging on Clatsop beaches. He was a quiet man, an avid reader, and rejoined the sports card hobby in recent years. He also loved family outings, where he often showed off his sneaky sense of humor.
A lifelong bachelor, he spent many years caring for his parents, Kenneth E. and Dorothy A. Doney, who preceded him in death. He is survived by a sister, Niis Bue, and spouse Barbara Vining, of Longview; brother Ken and spouse Lane Koniak, of Columbia City; brother Jerry and spouse Debbie, of Warrenton; nephews Richard Berg of Sublimity and Ben Doney of Warrenton; a niece, Kari Berg, of Astoria; numerous cousins from the Bue and Doney family tree; and his famous uncle and bowling partner, Ken Bue of Astoria.
Donations in his name would be especially welcome at Warrenton High School Scholarship Inc. or the Warrenton Calvary Assembly of God food pantry.
Ocean View Funeral and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements. Please view the online guest book at www.OceanViewAstoria.com
