Jon Riekkola

Astoria  July 19th, 1954 – February 25th, 2017 

Jonathan B. “Jon” Riekkola,  62, of Astoria, died on February 25, 2017 at his residence.  

He was born in Astoria on July 19, 1954 the son of Archie and Dorothy Jackson Riekkola.  He was raised Astoria and attended Astoria public schools, graduating from Astoria High School and lived his entire life in Astoria.  

He was married to the former Jackie Buzzell at the Philadelphia Church in Hammond on August 5, 1990.  

Jon started farming at the age of six years old, driving rake tractor for the Riekkola family farm.  As Jon grew older he continued expanding his trade skills as an accomplished logger, rock quarry developer, diesel mechanic, and business owner.  In his later years Jon continued to operate under the Lewis & Clark Seed Company name established by his grandfather in 1935 and Riekkola Land and Development.  Jon was also able to pursue his true passion over the last ten years by working with the elderly and children as the head of maintenance at the Astor House, followed by head custodian at Warrenton High School. 

Jon’s hobbies and interests included hiking, road trips, history, rebuilding repurposing old equipment and wood, and creating a duck hunting habitat.  He was a past president of the Diking District 9, a committed husband, father, and grandfather.   

He is survived by his wife Jackie of Astoria, sons Dylan Riekkola, Emmitt Brewer, Adrian Brewer, Tyler Riekkola all of Astoria and Bryce Riekkola of Bend, OR; his sister Mary Nauha, brothers Ben, Dave, and Jeff Riekkola, and four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Dorothy Riekkola.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 1:00 at the Coastline Christian Fellowship, 89386 Hwy 202, Astoria.   A fellowship hour will follow at the church.  

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Back Pack Lunch Program either at the memorial service or by mail in care of Ocean View Funeral Services, 1213 Franklin Avenue, Astoria, OR  97103.
