Obituary: Noma Ellen Johnson (March 16, 1924 – November 19, 2017)

Noma Ellen Johnson passed away in her home on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the age of 93. Noma was born to Milo & Georgia (Cole) Carpenter on March 16, 1924 in Astoria, Oregon. During her lifetime, Noma worked as a waitress at the canneries then later on became a swim instructor at the Astoria YMCA and the Seaside Aquatic Center.

Noma’s first marriage to Velo Hutala produced a son, Richard Hutala. In 1964, Noma lost her son Richard, who died in a motor vehicle accident while stationed in Germany during his military service in the U.S. Army.

Noma went on to marry Carl Kenwisher and had two children, Vernon and Lorinda Kenwisher. Carl passed away in 1955.

In March of 1989, Noma married Don Johnson and the couple had the fortune of being able to share over 30 years together.

During that time Don and Noma were able to enjoy the benefits of mutual of retirement until Don passed away in 2015. For those years they were able to share in the mutual benefit of being retired.

Noma is survived by a half-sister, Gayle and Phil Courts, her son Vernon, and daughter Lorinda (Al) Norman, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service is scheduled 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2017 at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton where she will be laid to rest with Don.
